Clients occasionally ask me to put in language into their health care powers of attorney and advanced health care directives regarding donation of their organs. In New Jersey, this is not really necessary for most people.

New Jersey Hero Act

On July 22, 2008, then Acting Governor Richard Codey signed the “New Jersey Hero Act” into law. The New Jersey Hero Act requires that all individuals applying for a driver’s license to make a pro-active decision as to whether you wish to be an organ donor or not.
